“Foto Finds” – Mushrooms behind my house

My house in the suburbs sits on a narrow strip of land at the top of a cliff overlooking a fast flowing creek. This piece of earth is skirted by large oak, elm and cherry trees and is visited frequently by rabbits, birds, deer, turkey, raccoons, squirrels, possums and even the occasional coyote. Many of these visitors are just passing through but some may be invited by another group of residents living at this address who make their presence known only during the non-winter months.

Most of these colorful natives come out of hiding after a soaking summer rain and show their tribal colors to the world. They are surprisingly shy and barely give you enough time to photograph them before retreating into the shadows. A curious eye will catch them before they depart. You can meet my fungi friends in the fotos below.
